The Notwist wurden 1989 in Weilheim, nahe München gegründet. Ihre Musik einzuordnen ist kaum möglich. Ihr erstes Album (the Notwist) erschien 1989.

The Notwist was formed in the end of the 1989 in Weilheim, next to Munich, germany. To classify their music is nearly impossible. Their first lp (the Notwist) was released in 1989. In the beginning a pure Punk- and Hardcoreband, they quickly began to bring other elements into their music. Their second lp (Nook, 92) isn´t as rough as their debut was and there are a few songs on it, that are more "quiet". In 1995 their third lp "12" was released. It contained some electronic clusters, but still the guitars and the voice of Markus Acher dominated the songs. I think it is their best album so far. What makes their music so marvelous is the "big" guitar sound combined with those wonderful tunes and the voice of their frontman. I think "12" was the first album I listened to. My first thought was: "Cool, sounds like Dinosaur Jr. mixed with Nine Inch Nails!" Today, I don´t know what made me think of NIN. Perhaps they are a little little bit similar to Sonic Youth, but their style is totally unique. In 98 "Shrink", their fourth album was released. It puts some new elements into their music, e.g. jazz. Now they use trumpets and saxophones and some songs are totally based on electronic sounds. But it sounds still like the Notwist.
